About the Game

Apollo 11 simulates the various stages of the first manned mission to the moon in all its glory. With interactive sequences that allow users to explore and learn about the moon’s surface, dock the shuttle and pilot the Eagle lander.

The game was released as one of the Oculus Quest original launch titles.

Key Achievements

  • I collaborated with Oculus to provide estimates and ensure the game was able to release as a launch title despite tight deadlines.

  • I overhauled the original version of the game, originally for PC VR. Rewriting the codebase and optimizing rendering, lighting and 3D assets using Simplygon and other mesh reduction techniques.

  • Worked with technical artists to brainstorm novel solutions that would allow us to run a game designed for powerful PC VR systems on the Oculus Quest.

  • Profiled memory utilization and optimized large textures and other files to avoid crashes.
